Hasegawa Tohaku’s Old Trees And Monkey inspired this Lino cut. The original (16th century) ink on paper scrolls  hangs in the Kyoto National Museum under a special dim light that keeps them preserved. I loved the subtle expression and gesture of the (technically lesser apes not monkeys) animals and wanted to have a crack at it here. If you think there are no little monkeys in Glebe then you’ve never walked passed the monkey bars at Harold Park.

Gibbons are hugely impacted by the effects of climate change and deforestation with roughly 1.2% of their diverse rainforest felled annually. Fading ink under a dim light; let us hope that this isn't the only way the next generations witness this incredible species.
