Manual Power

This metaphoric David versus Goliath image happened spontaneously while photographing my subject Marc on his paddle board alongside the Glebe Island ship dock.

If you look closer you can see two bins on his paddle board in which Marc collects by hand floating plastic and rubbish which has been swept out to sea from our littered streets. Marc has been cleaning our local Blackwattle Bay and Pyrmont waterways on a voluntary basis for the past three years and continues to do so. He views plastic, in both its household and industrial use, as the greatest non-bio degradable contributor to floating debris in our harbour’s waterways.

I felt compelled to capture Marc’s story this way. A lone Samaritan taking on the big guns in his endeavour to rid plastic from our food chain.
