The re-opening of the White Bay Power station in early March 2024 had been a long time coming.it was a critical environmental matter to reshape this significant building and the associated spaces into a productive and worthy place in our local community. We in the inner west have waited 40 years for the emergence of this wonderful old industrial building into a significant art and performance space.

On the opening evening in March 2024 the local people were there, excited to witness this new form at the centre of their community. An historic occasion indeed. The night really was for the locals, they walked, came by bus or even cycled queuing ready to explore the internal space of a building that had been an external signature for so long. This photo was taken late in the evening on the opening night of the Biennale of Sydney. The 'Lights On' program saw 'Legs on the Wall’, a local theatre company, performance high inside the interior space. This was the focal moment to inform us of the potential of such huge big space and the magnitude of the industrial frame. It was transformative, and I was delighted to capture the performance with such a sharp focus.
