Ko Kai Tahu ka iwi.
Ko  Clans Donnachaidh , O’Driscoll and Hinds

My name is Maaka Robertson, and I am an artist/Ringatoi.
I acknowledge the Gadigal people of Eroa Nation on whose land I live. I acknowledge  the elders, past, present and emerging.

I hold a  Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours (First class) from Massey University ,College Creative Arts,
Toi Rauwhārangi, Wellington ,Aotearoa/New Zealand.

The following are the four foundations upon which I build my practice.
1.The Ancestors
2.The People
3.The Spiritual worlds
4.The world of Light.

To know who we are, where we stand and where we are going.
First, we must know where we come from and who we come from.
Our ancestors were great explorers, and I acknowledge this by pushing my artistic journey into new areas and revisiting stories which need to be told .
My current focus is on decolonisation as I wish to encourage everyone to participate in creating a better environment , concentrating on water, both  freshwater and salt water.
The fluid which is the major component of our bodies, connects us but also disconnects us"(girt by sea”).
Colonisation has many negative impacts, one of which is the commodification of water and land.
We cant drink money and money does not cleanse anything.
The way forward , wherever you are, is for us to Honour the First Nations People by sharing power.
Consultation is not consent.
We as artists must be activists(Artivists) to provide a better planet for future generations
