The Green Horizons Prize - what is it and is my entry eligible?
The Green Horizons Prize of $500 is sponsored by our local member, the Hon. Kobi Shetty. The impact of a changing climate gets many of us thinking about our future and how we will find the innovation and resilience needed to confront this challenge. This prize will be awarded to a work that explores the positive responses being made to address the damaging environmental impacts we are making on our communities. Entries will be judged on artistic merit and the ability to convey their message about climate and environmental change.
When putting in your entry you will see a box marked ‘Artist’s Statement’. This is the key to having your entry noticed by the judges, your chance to tell the judges how your artwork fits with the prize criteria. Any subjects can be featured, whether urban scenes, people, landscapes or wildlife. The important thing is the message you convey - a beautiful green tree or landscape without an Artist’s Statement or any clear context will make it hard for the judges to consider how your entry fits the prize requirements. You might enter a work that conveys resilience, or questions and feelings about hope, or despair, or a determination to survive, or actions being taken to combat the negative effects we are starting to experience.
