My interest in portraiture stems from a fascination with how light transforms form and colour. A single ray through a window blind can curve across a face like topographic lines, tracing the mounds and hollows of the skin. Light and shadow create dramatic contrasts, an eyeball catches the glow, making its colour appear more vivid; the thin cartilage of an ear glows blood-red where the light shines through. This piece is barely a portrait in the traditional sense. Rather, it is an ode to my love of light, colour, and form.
