Artist statement
When something catches my eye, I distil or pare down the image while preparing to render it in collage. I’m not trying to capture the detail but rather the essence of the subject as I see it. My process is deliberately reductive, seeking clarity and freshness over precision.
I work with coloured card, newsprint, pieces of wood, bits of plastic and other found materials, combining the everyday and the overlooked into compositions that carry both immediacy and texture. These fragments are cut, layered, and arranged to create an image that vibrates with energy while remaining rooted in the material world. Once complete, the collages are digitised and giclée printed on archival paper, ensuring their longevity while preserving the tactile qualities of the original work.
Through this practice, I aim to transform the ordinary into something celebratory. Architectural forms, natural motifs, and fleeting observations become distilled symbols of colour and shape, inviting viewers to look again at their surroundings with a renewed sense of attention and delight.
