A trip to the Galápagos Islands fulfilled a lifelong dream. While the wildlife was endlessly captivating, this image of an American Flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber) immediately stood out to me. Its brilliant colour, delicate plumage and improbable elegance seemed to contrast perfectly with the strength of its distinctive beak. Reflected in the mirror-like waters of Isla Isabela in the late afternoon light, the bird appeared poised between movement and stillness. For me, this photograph captures an ephemeral moment of grace and strength, and the sense of wonder that made the Galápagos such a remarkable place to experience.
