My mixed-media work examines the lush forms of hydrangeas through layered brushwork and textured marks. While walking through Glebe and the Inner West, I noticed how these dense, beautiful blooms frequently catch and conceal urban rubbish. I am drawn to this contrast because it highlights how easily we overlook the litter - building up in our green spaces. This piece considers our relationship with waste and invites viewers to look closer at what hides within our environment, encouraging a collective effort to reduce littering. I am a mixed-media artist based in Pyrmont. My background is Ukrainian/Scottish. I spent 15 years working as a ceramicist before teaching myself to paint (approx. 5 years ago), which has since grown into a deep passion. Painting allows me to translate the tactile, sculptural feel of clay onto the canvas, turning an everyday environmental observation into a textured visual conversation.
