I'm using lines and created in direct response to the moving landscape. This painting is from a series "Wild Calm" where each painting is developed back in the studio to create imagined landscapes with a sense of place...from the lines sometimes animals and figures appear but I'm careful not to overwork these elements leaving surprises for the viewer to create their own interpretation. The works are created with a mixture of mediums: crushed rock pigments, charcoal, pastels and wax crayons, acrylic and oil paint. There is a frenetic energy in the paintings that aims to capture the movement as one walks through the landscape. My aim is to create a sense of calm and energy which is a juxtaposition based in the power of nature to calm and nurture the mind while itself, having no sense of order, and yet an infinite pattern that can be repeated again and again to create new space.
