As a social scientist and emerging artist, I explore the here and now in all its forms with a growing intrigue in the passage of time, working outside under my pergola in a makeshift studio. Art is a way of staying grounded in a changing environment, relevant during the pandemic when I finished this painting in lockdown. In some ways my art is an homage to my mother, herself an artist and living with dementia in a nursing home. In her words: “when I am painting, all I am thinking about is the next colour and where to put it”.
