Michael Hogan draws with me every week in Glebe, where he is well known for his work for the Glebe Society, the Glebe Art Show, his book documenting the Labour Party in Glebe and his academic work at the University of Sydney. Also for his sense of humour, fair-mindedness and zest for life. I usually work in oil but had watercolours on hand after life drawing with him, where he popped on the Melbourne Cup hat. Portraits are fun to paint when there is a chance of capturing the essence of somebody, in this case Michael's cheeky and sharp sense of fun.
