Drawn from imagery taken during a painting trip through Mongolia, Put Me in Coach reflects on the horses left waiting around camp for their turn to be taken on trail rides. Their existence in these moments feels almost banal, standing on the dry plains waiting to be chosen, before suddenly being set loose to gallop and graze through the mountains. The work draws a parallel between this state of waiting and my own relationship with social media. Posting, waiting, performing and occasionally being given the opportunity to 'Gallop'. There is an increasing pressure to follow the necessary behaviours to be seen, allowing algorithms and metrics to quietly dictate what success looks like and how we pursue it. The horses become a reflection of this cycle. Waiting on the sidelines for their turn, while the promise of something freer sits just beyond it.
