On my walks around the Glebe foreshore, I notice many banksia plants growing. This has led me to create sketches of these magnificent plants. In this work I have set the banksias in the scrubland and I have enjoyed creating the floating feeling of the trees, banksias and leaves. We need more green areas to protect our environment and create beautiful areas for communities to enjoy. I like the dynamics of the background trees where they have extended beyond the border of the work. To create this textile work I have used many varieties of fabrics and stitches, including organza, silk, netting, recycled fabrics, paper, merino wool and felt. The techniques used are free machine embroidery and hand stitching.
