This painting was done from life with no photographic reference - something that necessitated the simplification of the forms of the body as the pose could not be held for long. The composition draws from the beautiful geometry of Euan Uglow  and aims at balance despite the entire right hand side being empty. The inversion of the figure also seemed an apt expression of the topsy turvy nature of recent times.
