I like to paint landscapes like this on location. I take a canvas to the spot 3 or 5 times if I can. I sometimes take photos to retouch from but photo colour is compressed and reduced, so its better as a memory aid not a primary source. Some buildings had been demolished to make way for tram infrastructure on Castlereagh st between the corner and the old NSW Masonic centre and the Scientologists. It opened out the view and I brought my canvas in from Glebe a few times to paint on the street
