In Painting, my objective is to build coherent worlds and visual narratives, combining abstraction of the observed world while allowing for whatever subtext might emerge spontaneously from the current (sane or otherwise) state of mind.
There is a preoccupation with the visual richness of natural shapes and forms, how seeing is by its nature abstract, how these abstract forms are transmitted into unreliable memory, and how remembering modifies even the most familiar; an attempt to capture in paint something of the minds workings - though sometimes to paraphrase S. Freud - 'a tree is just a tree' - and a painting, in it's making and viewing, should have its own direct reward which need not be theorized away.
