Rosie Dodd is a Sydney-based painter whose work explores landscape as a way of holding memory, atmosphere, and the felt experience of place. Her paintings are born from long hikes into remote natural environments and translate those encounters into expressive, abstracted compositions that capture light, solitude, and moments of peace and reflection.
Originally from the UK, raised in Michigan, and shaped by a decade in New Zealand, Rosie brings a layered, cross-cultural perspective to her practice. She studied at Browne School of Art in Auckland before relocating to Sydney in 2024. Her work is informed by a fascination with light, colour, and the emotional resonance of landscape, capturing both the physical character of a place and the feeling of being within it.
‘You’ve been waiting to fly’ confronts the sheer scale and raw exposure of the Scottish moorlands. The composition draws the eye down a winding valley floor where dark, still water cuts through broad stretches of moss and peat. Drawn from time spent traversing remote country, the piece centers on the humbling experience of vulnerability in wild places—capturing the lingering memory of standing alone against an ancient, unyielding landscape.
