2nd Runner-up, People's Choice Award

Showcasing the beauty of nature through photography and thread is my favourite thing to do. My photographs are printed onto linen or canvas, and elements of the photograph are hand embroidered by me to highlight a certain part of the image.  I often choose to exaggerate the colours and textures of nature in my hand embroidery. This particular image shows a strangler fig that had completely encased a large tree within  Dorrigo National Park.  I used waxed hemp to exaggerate the gnarly twists and turns of the fig as well as various cottons to represent the leaves on the tree as well as epiphytic ferns. It is framed in Tasmanian  Oak.
